So what's with BardsTaleOnline.com?

Well as a fan of the classic, retro, and highly memorable role playing trilogy Bard's Tale 1-3, I've had collections of maps and hacking from when I was a kid that I kept revisiting every few years as I re-played through each game.

Recently one of the best Bard's Tale fan-sites, The Adventurer's Guild by Tom Greene, was taken down by Tom. In the BT community, a number of people offered to mirror his entire site - I being one of them. Without having too much free time, I let the site sit, serving fans of the series and newcomers. Feedback was encouraging and helpful, and I've been priviliged to hear from new fans of the series :).

So it's 2005, and I felt it was finally time to re-hash the site and offer a more complete collection of BT 'stuff', with some nice web enhancements to keep up with the times...

Thus was born BardsTaleOnline.com, from the quick nabbing up of the domain from Sebastien, who had purchased the domain but had no desire to do anything with it. So with help from other resources and BT fans, I've put together this website to help keep the Tale alive :).

Reviewing all my maps and actually going through the games again to find anything that I may have missed in the maps is definitely an interesting experience :). The best part is seeing how similar everyone's methods of mapping and notation seem to be. I personally think over the years I've changed my methods a few times... my first BT map was enormous on grid paper, and my most recent is 1/4 the size (4 spaces per grid), trying to fit as many maps on one page as possible, including notes! The trusty symbols however, have stayed the same all these years.

Anyway, hope you enjoy your stay! Now go venture into the wilderness...
